EWP Ticket Training (Under 11 Metres) Frequently Asked Questions
Does my EWP Ticket expire?
Your nationally recognised Statement of Attainment (SoA) does not have an expiry date.
After successfully completing the EWP course with Origin Institute, you will receive a nationally recognised SoA confirming that you have demonstrated the required competency to operate the EWPs covered by your training.
However, your employer may require refresher training or verification of competency (VOC), particularly if you have not operated an EWP for a long time or need to demonstrate that your skills remain current.
If you operate a boom-type EWP with a boom length of 11 metres or more, different requirements apply and you will generally need the relevant High Risk Work Licence (WP class).
Do I receive an EWP Ticket after completing the course?
Yes. After successfully completing the course, you will receive:
a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment (SoA); and
an Origin Institute Digital EWP Ticket.
Your digital EWP Ticket includes a QR code that can be used to access and verify your training information.
For eligible Apple devices, the ticket can be added to Apple Wallet for convenient access. Android users may use a compatible digital wallet app.
Origin Institute has issued Digital EWP Tickets to students completing this course since 18 September 2023.
How long does it take to get my EWP Ticket?
You can complete your EWP training in one day.
After successfully completing all course requirements, Origin Institute can issue your nationally recognised Statement of Attainment on the same day.
Your Origin Institute Digital EWP Ticket is generally issued at approximately 6 am the following morning.
Is Origin Institute’s EWP training nationally recognised?
Yes. Origin Institute is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), and we deliver CPCCCM3001 – Operate elevated work platform up to 11 metres as nationally recognised training.
After successfully completing the course and all assessment requirements, you will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment (SoA). Your training outcome can be recognised across Australia.
Is this EWP training recognised by WorkSafe Victoria?
Yes. Origin Institute delivers CPCCCM3001 – Operate elevated work platform up to 11 metres as nationally recognised training through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
WorkSafe Victoria’s Elevating Work Platforms Industry Standard (page 14) states that training for scissor lifts, boom-type EWPs under 11 metres and other EWPs should comprise structured, nationally recognised training, including assessment overseen by a suitably trained assessor.
The Industry Standard also specifically identifies certification of EWP training from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) as an example of evidence that can demonstrate an operator’s competency and training.
After successfully completing your EWP training with Origin Institute, you will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment (SoA) as evidence of your completed EWP operator training.
For a boom-type EWP with a boom length of 11 metres or more, a WP High Risk Work Licence is required instead.
What is EWP Ticket or Yellow Card training?
EWP Ticket training is designed for people who need to safely operate Elevating Work Platforms such as:
Scissor Lifts (SL)
Vertical Lifts (VL)
Boom Lifts (BL) under 11 metres
Training for these types of EWPs is also commonly referred to in industry as Yellow Card training or EWP Operator training.
Origin Institute delivers nationally recognised EWP training through CPCCCM3001 – Operate elevated work platform up to 11 metres.
Is an EWP Ticket the same as a High Risk Work Licence?
No.
EWP training for equipment under 11 metres and a High Risk Work Licence are different.
For a boom-type EWP with a boom length of 11 metres or more, you generally need a WP class High Risk Work Licence issued by the relevant state or territory regulator.
If you only need to operate EWPs covered by our under-11-metre course, you can complete our CPCCCM3001 EWP Ticket training.
Do I need a separate EWP Operator Card from an industry association?
No. Origin Institute delivers nationally recognised training and issues a Statement of Attainment after successful completion of the course.
You do not need to purchase a separate industry-association card simply to make your nationally recognised Statement of Attainment valid.
Origin Institute also provides successful students with our Digital EWP Ticket for convenient access to their training information.
Why do you say “under 11 metres” when the unit is called “Operate elevated work platform up to 11 metres”?
The official unit name is CPCCCM3001 – Operate elevated work platform up to 11 metres. However, you will often see EWP training described as “under 11 metres” because of the High Risk Work Licence threshold.
In Victoria, a WP High Risk Work Licence is required to operate a boom-type EWP where the boom length is 11 metres or more. For this reason, “under 11 metres” is commonly used to clearly distinguish this EWP Ticket training from training for the WP High Risk Work Licence.
The wording “up to 11 metres” on our website refers to the official title of CPCCCM3001 and should not be interpreted as changing the regulatory requirement for boom-type EWPs at 11 metres or more.
What if my employer doesn’t accept my Origin Institute EWP certificate?
Your Statement of Attainment is issued following successful completion of nationally recognised training.
Some employers may have their own workplace requirements, such as site induction, refresher training or Verification of Competency (VOC). These requirements are separate from whether your Statement of Attainment is nationally recognised.
If your employer has questions about your Origin Institute qualification, please contact us and we can help clarify your training records.
Which types of EWP are covered by this course?
Our EWP training covers three common EWP categories:
Scissor Lift (SL)
Used to elevate workers vertically to a work area.
Vertical Lift (VL)
A compact vertical elevating platform commonly used for access in restricted spaces.
Boom Lift (BL) – up to 11 metres
Provides elevated access using an extending or articulating boom.
During the practical training, you will gain hands-on experience with the equipment included in the course.
What is the difference between CPCCCM3001 and RIIHAN301E?
Both are nationally recognised units of competency, but they come from different training packages and have different unit requirements and industry contexts.
Origin Institute delivers CPCCCM3001 – Operate elevated work platform up to 11 metres, which sits within the construction training package and is particularly relevant to building and construction environments.
Origin Institute specialises in construction and trade training, which is why CPCCCM3001 is the EWP unit we deliver.
What happens if I lose my EWP Ticket?
If you completed your EWP training with Origin Institute, contact us at support@origin.edu.au and we can assist you with accessing or replacing your training records.
Students who completed the course with Origin Institute from 18 September 2023 onwards may also have an Origin Institute Digital EWP Ticket.
If you completed your training with another RTO, you should contact that training provider directly.
Do I need a White Card to operate an EWP?
It depends on where you are working.
If you are carrying out construction work, you may also need to hold a White Card (Construction Induction Training) before working on a construction site.
An EWP Ticket and a White Card serve different purposes. Your EWP training covers the operation of elevating work platforms, while White Card training covers general construction safety.
Is EWP training the same as Working Safely at Heights training?
No. They are different types of training.
EWP training covers the skills and knowledge required to safely operate elevating work platforms covered by the course.
Working Safely at Heights training focuses on working where there is a risk of falling from one level to another and the associated fall-prevention and safety requirements.
Depending on your work activities and workplace requirements, you may need one or both.
Do you offer EWP training for boom lifts over 11 metres?
Yes.
If you need to operate a boom-type EWP with a boom length of 11 metres or more, Origin Institute also offers training for the WP High Risk Work Licence.
Choose our EWP Over 11m Training instead of this course if you require the WP licence.
What do I need to bring to my EWP training?
Please bring:
a laptop or tablet for completing and submitting your assessment;
closed-in shoes suitable for practical training; and
any identification or other items specified in your enrolment information.
Our practical training takes place in a warehouse environment. During Melbourne’s colder months, we recommend bringing warm clothing as the training area can be cold.
Do I need to complete the theory assessment before class?
We recommend completing as much of your theory assessment as possible before attending your EWP class.
Don’t worry if you haven’t finished everything. Your trainer will cover the relevant theory and provide guidance during the training session.
You must successfully complete all required theory and practical assessments before your Statement of Attainment can be issued.
What will I learn in the EWP course?
The course develops the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate an elevating work platform.
Your training includes how to:
plan and prepare for EWP operations;
identify workplace hazards and apply appropriate controls;
conduct pre-start and routine EWP checks;
prepare and position the EWP for work;
safely operate and elevate the EWP;
lower and shut down the EWP correctly; and
complete post-operational checks and clean up the work area.
The course combines theory with hands-on practical training, helping you develop skills you can apply in real workplace environments.
