What is a White Card and who needs one?
The White Card (CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry) proves you’ve completed mandatory construction safety training. Required for all construction workers, labourers, apprentices, tradespeople, and owner-builders entering any Australian construction site.
Can I do White Card training online?
VIC: No online – face-to-face training only (WorkSafe VIC requirement since 2023).
NSW: Yes – live virtual classroom (SafeWork NSW approved).
WA: Yes – face-to-face or self-paced online (WorkSafe WA approved).

How long does White Card training take in each state?
Minimum 6-7 hours nationally, completed in one day:
VIC: 6 hours face-to-face only.
NSW: 7 hours (live virtual or face-to-face).
WA: 6-8 hours (face-to-face or online).
Includes theory, practical assessment, and breaks.
When will I get my official White Card by state?
Statement of Attainment same day – start work immediately:
VIC: Plastic card mailed by WorkSafe Victoria (2-3 weeks).
NSW: Card issued by SafeWork NSW (<30 days).
WA: Issued by WorkSafe WA (2-3 weeks).
Does my White Card expire?
No expiry date, but complete refresher training if out of construction 2+ years before returning to sites.
Is my White Card valid interstate?
Yes – nationally recognised across all Australian states and territories.
