White card course (also known as construction induction training or red card training) is the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work.

How to receive your white card:
Complete the White Card course with Origin Institute,
Receive a digital certificate (interim white card) from Origin Institute on the same day of course completion, so you can start working,
Receive a formal white card from WorkSafe Victoria.
International Students:
Origin Institute is a CRICOS provider. Our white card course accepts international students as well. You must have a valid visa to enroll in this course. Origin Institute requires all overseas visa holders (except permanent residents who may provide Medicare Cards) to provide a current VEVO Check during the enrolment stage. The VEVO Check must be the original PDF, which is generated from the Department of Home Affairs' system within 2 days of submission.
Entry Requirements
Valid Photo ID:
You must hold a valid Photo ID (View the list of acceptable photo IDs).
Statement of Attainment and White Card can not be issued if a participant does not provide a valid photo ID. An overseas driver's licence is not acceptable.
Rights to Study in Australia:
If you are holding an overseas visa, you must be entitled to study or work in Australia under your visa.
All participants will be asked to provide a valid type of residency evidence, such as a VEVO check, passport, Australian government-issued Medicare Card or other document which can prove that you are entitled to work or study in Australia.
English Skill:
Basic understanding of reading, writing and oral English.

What is a White Card?

Can I do White Card training online?
Since 1 January 2023, online white card training has been discontinued in Victoria. All White Card training MUST be done in a face-to-face class in Victoria. Please also beware of many online white card course scammer websites.
What should I bring to my class?
You need to bring your original photo ID and pen to your class.
Do I need to bring my PPEs?
If you train with Origin Institute, you don’t need to bring your PPEs. Your trainer will have them available for use during the assessment.
How long does it take to get my White Card?
Once you complete our training, we will issue you a Statement of Attainment (SoA) on the same day. The SoA can be used as an interim White Card for up to 60 days until you receive the plastic White Card. Getting your physical white card usually takes around 2-3 weeks.
Can I start working after getting my certificate?
Once you receive the Statement of Attainment (SoA), you can start working immediately. We usually issue the SoA on the same day that you complete your course.
How long will my White Card be valid for?
The White Card has no expiry date. However, you must attend another White Card training if you have left the industry for over two consecutive years.
Can I use my White Card in other states?
Yes, you can use it anywhere in Australia.
Do you provide White Card training to international students?
Yes, we provide White Card training to international students. We are also a CRICOS provider (ID: 03819K) who provides many other construction courses to international students.
Can I transfer my Red Card to a White Card?
Yes, we offer the Red Card to White Card transfer service.
What happens if I lose my White Card?
Please get in touch with WorkSafe Victoria (1800 136 089) to order a new replacement card.

The construction induction training (white card training) covers essential health and safety knowledge for working in the construction industry. The purpose of the white card training is to ensure that all persons who work in the construction industry have basic occupational health and safety (OHS) knowledge so that the OHS risk in this industry can be reduced dramatically.

What is the Learning Competency Assessment (LCA)?
The LCA comprises a suitability assessment, language, literacy and numeracy test, and general instruction of our course. It allows us to identify any support needs the student may have.
Can I use my overseas driver’s licence?
No, we don’t accept any overseas driver’s licence as a valid form of photo ID.
