It had been 4 months since we held builder workshop last time. This time, we brought very different thing to our students - the concept of light gauge steel construction. Most of Australian houses were built by timber frame. Origin Institute, a building and construction educator, wished our students knew that they would have many different options to build a house in the future. The light gauge steel construction may be another way to go.
We invited Ramsey from Structerre. Ramsey is a licensed structure engineer. He is specialised in timber and light gauge steel structure design. In this workshop, Ramsey talked about advantage, disadvantage and characteristics of light gauge steel and the difference between timber construction and light gauge steel construction.
We believed that our student had gain another insight of building and construction. Origin Institute will continue working with industry expert to bring better building and construction learning experience.
