EWP Ticket Training Frequently Asked Questions

Does my EWP ticket or EWP operator licence have an expiry date?

Origin Institute provides nationally recognised training, which means that your training credential or the SoA is valid for lifetime. You don't need to obtain a separate EWP card after completing EWP training with us.

However, the EWP card issued by other industry bodies may have a 5-year expiry.

Do I receive a physical card after course completion?

The Origin Institute issues a digital EWP ticket, which can be added to your Apple Wallet and is more convenient and easier to use than a traditional plastic card. Android phone users may need a third-party app (e.g., example app) to store their digital EWP ticket. The digital EWP ticket includes a QR code, which allows your employer or supervisor to view the full version of the Statement of Attainment. The Origin Institute introduced the digital EWP ticket on 18 September 2023. Any students who complete EWP ticket training with us on or after 18 September 2023, will receive this digital EWP ticket at approximately 6 am after training completion.

How long does it take to get my EWP ticket?

If you complete the EWP ticket training with Origin Institute, we will issue the nationally accredited Statement of Attainment (SoA) to you on the same day of course completion. Your SoA of EWP training is the legitimate EWP ticket.

If you complete the training with us after September 18, 2023, you will also receive a digital EWP Ticket at approximately 6 am after the training completion, which can be added to your Apple Wallet.

What is a Yellow Card or EWP ticket training?

Yellow Card or Elevated Work Platform (EWP) ticket training is for those who need to operate EWPs under 11 metres, which include scissor lift, vertical lift and boom lift. It is also commonly known as yellow card training in the industry.

What if my employer doesn’t accept my training certificate/SoA from Origin Institute?

Usually, your employer should recognise your Statement of Attainment (SoA), which is recognised nationally. In a very rare case that your employer does not accept your SoA, it doesn’t mean your SoA is invalid, but your employer has a misconception.

Origin Institute has provided a detailed explanation in this article. You may show this article to your employer or contact the WorkSafe authority in your state to help your employer resolve the misconception. The Origin Institute is willing to help employers overcome this misconception.

If you complete the training with us after 18 Sep 2023, you will also receive a digital EWP Ticket, which can be added to your Apple Wallet.

Do I need to approach an external EWP industry body to get a separate EWP card?

No, once you've done the EWP ticket training with Origin Institute, your Statement of Attainment (SoA) is recognised nationally. Your SoA for EWP ticket training from Origin Institute is 100% legitimate EWP training evidence.

How many types of EWPs are covered in this training?

You will learn how to use a scissor lift and a boom lift under 11 metres during the training. Once completed, you can operate 3 types of EWPs, which include scissor lift (SL), vertical lift (VL) and boom lift (BL) under 11 metres. The scissor lift and vertical lift work very similarly. They both only move up and down vertically, so you don't need to complete separate training for each.

What is the difference between CPCCCM3001 and RIIHAN301E?

Origin Institute provides CPCCCM3001 - Operates elevated work platform up to 11 metres, which is one of the nationally recognised units for EWP ticket training. Some other training providers may provide different units, such as RIIHAN301E Operate elevating work platform unit. These two units come from different training packages, but both are accredited training for EWPs. The CPCCCM3001 unit is inside the building and construction training sector. Origin Institute uses the CPCCCM3001 unit because we are more specialised in building and construction training. Completing this EWP training will support you in safe and effective operation of the above-mentioned EWPs, no matter if you are in construction or any other industry sectors.

What if I lost my EWP ticket?

If you have completed EWP ticket training with us, please get in touch with us by sending an email to support@origin.edu.au. We will then issue a new digital Statement of Attainment to you.

If you complete the training with us after 18 Sep 2023, you will also receive a digital EWP Ticket, which can be added to your Apple Wallet.

If you completed EWP ticket training with other training providers, you should contact that training provider for a solution.

Do I need a White Card to operate EWP?

It depends on your job. If you use EWP on a construction site, then you may also need a White Card. If you want to book a White Card course, click here.

Does an EWP ticket/licence cover working at height?

An EWP Ticket applies to the operation of elevated work platforms that are 11m or less in height. This is different from the type of ticket required for working safely at heights.

Do you have an EWP ticket training for over 11 metres?

Yes, we have EWP training for boom lengths over 11 metres. Please click here to book over 11 metres training.

What do I need to bring with me to the EWP training class?

Please bring your own laptop or tablet for submitting your assessment. We also require students to wear closed-in shoes during the training session. Please note that during the winter months, the warehouse's temperatures can be low. We recommend bringing sufficient warm clothing on cold weather days.

Do I need to complete the theory assessment before attending an EWP ticket training class?

Please complete as much as you can before attending the class. Our trainer will also go through all the theory assessments in the class.

What do I learn from the EWP ticket training course?

The elevated work platform (EWP ticket) training course includes, but is not limited to, the following learning outcomes:

  • Plan and prepare for a job where an EWP is required,

  • Conduct routine checks of EWP,

  • Locate the EWP in place for a job,
